Supporters of higher film tax incentive hold rally
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Advocates of a higher tax incentive for the film industry are holding a rally in North Carolina’s capital city to show their support. The rally will be held beginning Thursday morning at Halifax Mall in Raleigh, behind the Legislative Building. The N.C. Film Council meets at 1 p.m. North Carolina offers a 15 percent tax incentive, and legislators are considering a bill to increase that to 25 percent. Advocates have started a group called “25 to Survive.“
They point to a movie titled “The Last Song,“ starring Miley Cyrus. Walt Disney originally planned to film the movie in Wilmington, but moved production to Georgia, which offers incentives of up to 30 percent. Opponents say incentives only benefit Hollywood and that states never recoup the money they spend.
