Legislation would increase film incentive [News 14 Carolina]
WILMINGTON – Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington is backing a piece of legislation asking the state to increase the film incentive from 15 to 25 percent.
State Sen. Julie Boseman, D-New Hanover, introduced the higher tax incentive to stay competitive with other states like Georgia, which offers movie makers a 30 percent incentive.
“It’s going to be difficult, but we’ve got a couple studies that are being done right now. We’ll have the results back in a couple weeks,” Boseman said. “I think that will show what a positive impact that film has and how much money actually does get back for every dollar they spend.”
Screen Gems Studio leaders say without the film incentive increase, North Carolina will lose its in-state film crew, graduating film students and jobs to other states.
